Butterball Traditions with Purpose

Through our citizenship program, Traditions with Purpose, our mission is simple: to make delicious, nutritious, and affordable food in a responsible way. This objective is the foundation of our business values and culture, and it guides us in the continuous pursuit of doing what’s right.

This is why we make every effort to be a positive influence in all areas of our business – to engage and protect our people, deliver the highest-quality food to your plate, look after the environment for future generations and invest in the communities we call home.

People. Our people are the heart of our business, so their safety, health and satisfaction are among our top priorities.

Our award-winning safety programs and processes demonstrate this commitment: Butterball’s enterprise-wide recordable injury rate is consistently at least 50 percent better than the poultry industry average. Our facilities in Ozark and Huntsville, Arkansas, and Carthage, Missouri, received Awards of Distinction by The Joint Industry Safety and Health Council for outstanding safety performance through innovative and effective employee safety and health programs.

Plate. We commit to providing high-quality, nutritious and affordable products to consumers. This begins with providing the best possible care for our turkeys. In partnership with our family farmers, we are committed to achieving industry-leading results in animal care and well-being.

Food quality and safety rank as are our highest priorities. Our Butterball facilities have cleared a strenuous third-party certification audit as part of the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) that assessed our food-safety management system and ensures confidence in the delivery of food to customers.

We devote ourselves to leading the industry in animal care and well-being by engaging our Animal Care and Well-Being Advisory Council for guidance and recommendations. Further, our engagement with American Humane Association attests to our adherence to a strict set of science-based criteria that goes beyond current industry standards for the humane treatment of our turkeys. All of our hatcheries, meatbird farms and processing plants are American Humane Certified.

We commit to high food quality and safety standards that generate food our consumers love and that meets their standards for healthy options that suit their lifestyles. We’re proud of the food we produce. We use no steroids or hormones in any turkey feeds at any stage of production and many of our products offer all natural and gluten-free options for consumers. Twenty-seven items bear the “Heart-Check Mark” logo, denoting that the products are certified by the American Heart Association® as being heart-healthy foods.

Planet. We recognize our responsibility to protect the planet we share, preserve the natural resources we rely on to produce Butterball foods and ensure that our families and future generations enjoy a thriving environment.

As a company grounded in agriculture, our family farmers understand firsthand the importance of being good stewards of the land and its resources. Ensuring the health of these ecosystems means that we also support the health of the families and communities we serve. Since 2007, we have measured and reduced our impact on key natural resources and focused efforts where we can make the biggest difference: in transportation, manufacturing facilities and packaging. For example, we have reduced greenhouse-gas emissions by 24 percent, based on a 2007 baseline.

Philanthropy. Our communities are more than simply where we operate. They are where our associates and consumers live and raise their families. We commit to passionately serve the communities we call home.

Centering on local communities, we give back through our organization’s resources and our people’s time. Butterball supports local community needs through financial and in-kind donations, and partners with national and local nonprofit organizations such as Feeding America. Our associates volunteer and participate actively in causes that impact their local communities, such as raising money for the American Cancer Society and the American Red Cross.
